DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Making theater in a museum challenges creators and spectators to re-examine our definitions of what a play can be. It also invites us to experience the gallery environment as a dynamic space where inanimate objects come alive as they interplay with story, sound, and movement.
This performance, Evolving Impressions, was devised over sixteen hours of rehearsal in the Loeb galleries. The ensemble explored their relationship to the art through a blend of writing, movement, and improvisation exercises from multiple viewpoints. This generative work was centered around the question, "How do our perceptions of visual art evolve as we age?" We examined the question using personal reflections and memories and found they yielded poignant, silly, and thoughtful stories. We invite you to actively engage with the performance and consider how your own impressions of visual art have evolved over time.
