About The Event
‘Transmusing’ is a two-part workshop series for performers/performance-oriented artists and for visual/visually-oriented artists. In two 2.5hr sessions, we will dive into the foundations of both Performing Thingliness and Transmotions. The workshop will culminate in a session of Transmuse, wherein the painters will transmote the performers’ Thingliness performance! No prior experience required!
‘Performing Thingliness’ is a practice for deepening presence onstage and in life. Designed for performers of all kinds and non-performers alike, it cultivates a different way of experiencing one’s immediate environment— an altered mode of being controlled less by the brain and more by the senses and the heart.
Transmotion is a practice of mark-making that builds on Thingliness to interpret live motion (sound, action, word, etc) into visual art. Transmotion embraces the ephemerality of performance by responding to it intuitively as it happens, and documenting not the action or the movement themselves, but the encounter between actor/mover and observer.
