About The Event

No matter how trained your voice is, no matter how soft or loud… making joyful sounds together is therapeutic. So with the “secret choir” that’s what I offer: it’s a way to just go out and sing with other people the way you can go out dancing in a group! It’s an opportunity to get your boogie on in the vocal sense, but without the fuss of reading and learning music, or having to sing classical, religious, or top 40 repertoire. Why is it called the “secret choir”? I dubbed these singing experiences the “secret choir” because I had the idea to create a choir piece in which the lyrics were generated from the group singing it. I imagined people sharing secrets anonymously on pieces of paper, and singing them as a group together without knowing who’s secret is whose. This is one example (but definitely not a compulsory one) of what might be on the menu in the secret choir, along with some others, such as: singing in rounds, toning, and playing other singing games. Think: parlor games, but of the vocal sort. Some of the material is ancient, some is from the American folk canon, some is written by me, and some of it might be written by you! It’s an adventure! And I’d love for you to join me!
