About The Event
When the Lab moved all of our programming online in response to the pandemic, we asked ourselves what devising a show remotely might look like. The result? An online devising game called "Play to Play" that drew over 70 participants and 300 pieces of content. From there, we invited the community to join a cast that would begin taking that content and turning it into a production using our particular brand of devising techniques but adjusting them for working in Zoom. With a cast of 14 (13 humans and 1 cat) and a team of 6 writers and 2 editors, we came up with a soap opera called "Hawk's Landing." Continuing to develop the story and shoot the content in isolation means that the finished product, in addition to being a hilarious and silly narrative, is a time-capsule honoring our ability to continue to make art amidst uncertainty and unusual conditions.
